Memorial to Moroccan soldiers

During the 2nd Battle of Artois, also known as the Battle of Aubers Ridge, took place during the Spring offensive of 1915. The French 1st Moroccan Division along with the French 77th Infantry Division took the ridge after completing a stunning two and a half mile advance. They couldn't consolidate this tremendous achievement as reinforcements failed to arrive. They suffered terrible casualties as a result and the Germans retook the ridge the next day.
