After leaving the almost deserted Carentan, the traffic began to become much more noticeable, especially the amount of period vehicles. Most of these were U.S. jeeps, however there were a few larger trucks and troop carriers. We parked up at Utah Beach and headed towards the huge temporary grandstands that had been erected for the speeches and services for the coming days.
The beach is near the town of Pouppeville, and has a modern, refurbished museum and a number of memorials to the various units who fought here.
