British 18th Division Memorial

The 18th were made up of men from Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Berkshire, Kent, Northamptonshire, Middlesex, Sussex, Bedfordshire and Surrey. They took part in the Battle of the Somme and were considering one of the best fighting bodies of the British Army.
The copse of trees to the right of the column surrounds the Ulster Tower. The gap to the left of the copse is the road to Beaumont and Connaught Road Cemetery is there. The trees to the left of the column are Thiepval Woods. At the right of the small copse is Mill Road cemetery with its flat headstones.
