The Yorkshire Trench was uncovered in 1998 by a group of amateur archaeologist called The Diggers. They work on the weekends in their spare time, mainly ahead of developments which threaten to destroy crucial sites and evidence. The finds are given to the In Flanders Fields and Hooge Crater museums for exhibition.

The trench itself is remarkably well presented. You are able to walk along it’s length and there a number of information boards giving the story of the area. The gravel paths mirror the underground sections of the trench system (which you can’t explore unfortunately) and give a good feeling of the extent of this very minor network of trenches.
