This is a Greek tragedy written by Euripedes, the Greek clasical playwright. And not my cup of tea at all. All four lead women give superb performances, but the stagey setting, and stilted dialogue drag it down for me.
After the fall of Troy, the Greek soldiers and rulers take their pick of the Trojan women for slavery or for their bed. They also go about killing the Trojan children and surviving soldiers to quell any future uprising.
It’s meant as a commentary on man’s inhumanity to man, but as I said it was a little too dry for my tastes. I’m sure the more scholarly amongst you will enjoy it, and it’s far from the worst of its type, just not for me.
