Every evening at 8:00pm since 1928, the traffic into Ypres is stopped and the last post is played by buglers of the local volunteer fire brigade. It’s only ever been interupted during the Second World War, and that apart, rain, wind or snow, the volunteers perform the ceremony.

It’s one of the most moving things I’ve ever witnessed. There were hundreds of people there, including many school children. When the buglers appeared an instant hush came over the crowd to observe the laying of wreaths and the playing of the last post. I would recommend everybody to visit this sombre occasion if at all possible.
