Victoria Park - Leicester

Memorial to the men of the 82nd Airborne Division.
The division was stationed in and around Leicester and Nottingham prior to the Normandy landings. Braunstone Hall had a large number of men stationed, among them General James Gavin, who now has a road named after him on the Thorpe Astley residential development in Braunstone.
The inscription reads:
"In tribute and memory of those men of the United States (All American) 82nd Airborne Division who served in Leicester and county prior to the "D" Day invasion of Europe 1944.
They came in freedom. They fought with gallantry. Many never to return to their homeland."
