St. Ann's Square

The Manchester Regiment Memorial.
This is to the men of the regiment who died in the Boer War at the turn of the century. It was sculpted by William Hamo Thornycroft and unveiled by General Sir Ian Hamilton in 1908.
The memorial was a focal point for the remebrance ceremonies on Elandslaagte Day (21st October) after the actions of the regiment in 1899, and is to this day used in this way on Remembrance day.
