Cenotaph wreath laying ceremony. On Monday 9th of May 2005, the day after the celebrations, an altogether more sombre ceremony took place. We nipped out from work to attend. Russia marks VE day one day later than the rest of Europe. A veteran of the Russian convoys along with a civic leader layed wreaths. School children added their own tributes, and members of Manchester's Russian community paid their respects to the dead of the war. Particular focus was placed on the half a million people who died during the German blockade of Leningrad.
