The day was drawing to a close and there was a number of small villages still on our agenda. We had a couple of ‘must sees’ to fit in, so headed back west towards the main sites of the Somme battles and stopped off at the villages, cemeteries and memorials of Rancourt, Combles, Lesboeufs and Gueudecourt. Each one had its part to play in the battles of the war and each one had moving memorials to the many men who died on these grounds. |
