The memorial to John Howard. The plaque details the amazing mission they successfully carried out with such skill. It reads: "Major John Howard, Distinguished Service Order Croix de Guerre avec Palme Company commander of D Company, 2nd Battalion Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, who were part of 6 Airborne Division. In the early hours of 6 June 1944, one hundred & eighty men led by Major Howard landed according to plan in six gliders & captured intact the bridges over the Caen Canal & the River Orne."
Major Howard died on the 5th May 2000.
He returned to Pegasus every year.
