Elden shouldn’t be where it is on the menu. We visited it after Driel, but I’m lazy and can’t be bothered redoing it all. We only stopped there in passing. I fulfilled my photographic duties while the rest were ensconced in a pub on the town square. The village of Heuman is notable for the artist and sculptor Jac Maris. He was born in 1900 in Magdeburg, Germany, died in 1996 and inbetween, as well as his life in art, emigrated to South Africa, returned to Nijmegen, and settled in Heuman where he fought for the Dutch resistance. Many of the memorials in the surrounding areas are his works. My personal favourite is in Heuman itself and is pictured below. |
