Inside the basilica - François Faber,

A dedication to François Faber, Tour de France winner 1909.
He died in May 1915.
He was born in france but took Luxembourg nationality through his father. When the war broke out he joined the French Foreign Legion. His death is surrounded in mystery and is either bizarre or heroic. One story tells that upon receiving a telegram telling him of the birth of his daughter he leaped in the air with joy and was shot by a sniper. The other more accepted tale told of him retrieving a comrade from No Man's Land on his back and being shot in the process.
To this day a bike race (GP François Faber) held in Luxembourg in his honour.
