On the High St outside the old town hall stands the memorial for the town. It was originally erected for WW1. An additional inscription was made to include the dead of the Second World War, then a further modification was made when all the names were transferred to bronze plates and the civilian dead were named on a third plate. There is a plaque on the front explaining that damage to the memorial was made during a bombing raid in 1940. Unfortunately, the memorial was vandalised recently, but was repaired by the council and the British Legion.
