These two areas are very close to each other. There is a lot to see and it could take a couple of hours to take it all in. As it was, it was the end of the day, the light was failing and it was lashing it down.
There are sites devoted to Czechs, Poles, British, French and Germans all within a few minutes of each other.
The whole area was a vast fortified strongpoint during the war and the defending Germans fought fiercely to hold the positions. The cemetries seen here and at Notre Dame de Lorette add up to something near 110,000 men. All within a couple of miles of each other. The harrowing nature of the Great War is nowhere more apparent for me.
