Leopoldsburg is a Belgian garrison town just over the Dutch-Belgian border. We made our way there primarily as the famous speech by General Horrocks was made here (“This is a story you will tell your grandchildren; and mightily bored they'll be”) as the optimism was still high. We were rather disappointed to find the site of the speach is now a small flat with no marker to the event. It was still empty, so maybe when it’s finished it’ll be commemorated.

There’s plenty more to see in this historic military town though, most obviously the Sherman tank on display outside the train station. During the time of Market Garden, it was an immense storage depot and marshalling yard for the armoured element of the invasion.
