During the final days of the First World War, a young soldier is sent into a deserted French village to investigate reports of a large bomb left by the Germans.
Upon his arrival he is spotted by the Germans and chased into the village. He discovers that the inmates of the local asylum are still locked up and attempts to lead them to safety.
After spending time with the inmates he begins to question who are the mentally ill. The happy characters in the village or the murderous soldiers outside.
A superb anti-war story, funny and thought provoking in equal measure.
