The day drew to an end with visits to two breathtaking places, and a stop off at a cemetery.

La Boisselle is a village made famous by being situated near the enormous crater named Lochnagar. On the 1st of July 1916 the mine was detonated just prior to the main assault. The earth was thrown over four thousand feet into the air and the resultant crater was left behind. It’s an amazing place, Truly unforgettable.

We broke the journey with a stop in Corbie before ending the day in Villers-Bretonneux with a visit to the National Australian Memorial.

Lochnagar Crater has a website set up to preserve the site. It can be seen here.
