Joe's Bridge & memorial

De Groote Barrier Bridge as it was known is now named after Lieutenant-Colonel J.O.E. (Joe) Vandeleur. He along with his cousin, Lieutenant-Colonel G.A.D. (Giles) Vandeleur led a combined infantry and armour assault on the bridge and signalled the start of the operation proper.
