Hill 62, Sanctuary Wood and Mount Sorrel are all within a few strides of each other on this site. They were viciously fought for during 1916, with the Canadians taking the brunt of the German onslaught. At the top of the road the Canadian memorial gives an impressive vantage point and has three viewing points which afford superb views of the surrounding countryside.
The whole road is war related. There’s a cemetery at the foot, the museum, then the memorial at the top of the hill. It’s a must see place, but perhaps at a less busy time.
