These two towns lie on the outskirts of Leopoldsburg. Both saw action during Operation Market Garden. The armoured column reached Hechtel on the 7th September 1944 but determined German resistance held the advance up for three days. We didn’t have time to stop at the memorial Sherman due to failing light, and the four remaining places to visit.
