Captain Edwards MC

Captain Charles O'Reilly Edwards was a member of the Royal Engineers from Cheltenham. He was awarded a the Military Cross. This was given to officers who performed acts of gallantry during active operations against the enemy. Unlike the VC, it couldn't be awarded posthumously. The cross at the foot of his headstone was placed there by members of Ossett School of Yorkshire. They were on a trip to the battlefields of Ypres and met the Belgian royal family, Queen Elizabeth II and took part in the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate.
