A strange and quite disturbing tale of obsession, serial killers and spies. This won’t be to all tastes, but as it is the only film I’ve ever seen at the cinema with Genevieve Bujold in, it sticks in my mind. It will probably do this even if you’re not a fan. Some of the imagery is jarring, and the story needs your concentration to follow it.
A British spy is following a beautiful woman when he witnesses her kill her lover. Does he report it in? No, he sets about protecting her to try to atone for the death of his wife. But all is far from it seems in this film. To say any more would take away the enjoyment. It was for a short time the U.S. number one film in the box office, which after viewing may well be more of a shock than the film. It’s definite arthouse fare.
