The memorial plaque specific to Hearts football club, it's players and supporters who did so much to swell numbers in the battalion. It reads:
In honoured memory of the players, ticket holders and supporters of Heart of Midlothian Football Club, who took part in the advance on Contalmaison on 1 July 1916.
"Come pack up your footballs and scarves of maroon,
Leave all your sweethearts in Auld Reekie toon,
Fall in wi' the lads for they're off and away,
To take on tha bold Hun with old Geordie McCrae!"
