Alan Tatham.
Holder of the Distinguished Service Medal and member of the Royal Naval Reserve. He died aboard the submarine HMS E34.
On the 14th of July 1918 it left Harwich on a mission to lay mines off the coast of Holland near the island of Vlieland. Sometime around the 19th or 20th of July the submarine was lost with no survivors. It is not known what became of it.
The inscription is at the foot of a larger headstone to the dead sailor's grandfather.
