Memorial to the Katyn Massacre.
In 1940 Russian soldiers executed Polish officers, prisoners of war, and conscripts who were members of the intelligentsia.
It came about due to the pact between Russia and Germany to invade and divide Poland.
The numbers involved will never be known, but the estimates range from 1800 to 21,000.
