John Alcock. Half of the famous Alcock & Brown team who were the first people to fly non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean. The historic flight took place on the 14th and 15th June 1919. During the first world war Alcock was a pilot and was taken prisoner after being shot down over Turkey during a bombing raid. He died the 18th of December 1919 after crashing in Normandy due to fog. Three days earlier he had presented the Vickers Vimy he flew across the Atlantic to the Science Museum in London. He was twenty seven years old.
