This plaque in Canisy reads: "In homage to General Maurice Rose (1899-1945) Commander of the 2nd Armoured Division who liberated Canisy 26th July 1944" He died on 31.3.45 after driving his jeep round a corner straight in to the back of a Tiger tank. The 18 year old tank commander opened his hatch and machine gunned General Rose to death. |
