Having only two days with the car, we did well fitting six sites into them. Bayeux was our last trip of the two days, and the historic town was a great place to be. The centre of the town had a party atmosphere, whereas the British cemetery on the edge had a dignified air even with the attendant press preparing for the visit of the veterans and guest speakers the next day.
During the day we visited the Museum of The Battle of Normandy, the Commonwealth Cemetery, the Bayeux tapestry and the town itself. We returned to St. L
ô after this day and faced a struggle to find a room after a miscalculation of the bookings.
A night under the stars was looking on as everywhere was booked up until the landlord of the Passarelle bar rang a friend in a nearby town and saved the day. So if you're ever in St. Lô, give the barman a generous tip, he's a top fella.
