Our first full day saw us setting off for the sites at the far North of the area we were covering. On the way up North East of our home is the town of Ayette. We hadn’t planned a stop, but the village memorial was so striking, that an impromptu halt was called.
Zivy Crater is a very unusual Commonwealth war grave. It is situated in a mine crater and is perectly round. Another rare feature of it is that it is a mass grave. Fifty three men are buried here, forty eight are named on panels near the cross.
