The highlight of the trip before we set off was (for me) Arnhem. When I finally got there I wasnt disappointed. The city itself, of course has little left from the time of the battle, but the bridge still towers over the landscape. It was very late in the day, and with rushing and trying to see as much as possible it all flew by. It’s very hard to imagine the scene as it was. The whole area is modern and landscaped.

Markers and memorials show you where the major landmarks of the battle were situated and there are cobbles set in the pavement to take you on a tour of them. As the sun set we concluded our short tour of the area arriving back at the memorial garden via the Airborneplein to a spectacular sunset over the bridge.
